Types Of Glass

As we all know, there are different types of recreational vehicles that have different types of glass. Each type of glass has its own benefit and people have different reasons for the choices they make. At the end of the day, we do work on all the different types of glass that you can find on a recreational vehicle. The only difference is whether we can repair it, or if we have to replace it because unfortunately not all types of glass can be repaired. So if you are not sure which type of glass you have and whether or not it can be repaired, then check in with us and we will advise you.

Tempered Glass

As we have already established, different types of glass exist for your recreational vehicle. One of the options is tempered glass. What makes the glass tempered is the process of being heated and then rapidly cooled. This results in tempered glass being stronger than normal glass. However, it is not without its downsides because unlike regular glass, it doesn't chip or scratch. Instead, it shatters into thousands of pieces, meaning that this type of glass can not be repaired and replacement becomes the only option. So if your recreational vehicle has tempered glass and it has shattered, then contact us to have it repaired as soon as possible.

Laminated Glass

So we have already discussed tempered glass and its benefits. The other type of glass that can be used in a recreational vehicle is laminated glass. This type of glass is made by using two normal pieces of glass and essentially sandwiching them together and using a layer of polyvinyl butyral in the middle. When it breaks, it mimics the behavior of normal glass and can sometimes be repaired if the damage is not too far gone. So if you have laminated glass on your recreational vehicle and aren't sure if it can be repaired, then contact us to find out what we can do.

When Not To Repair

When you really think about it, a recreational vehicle is a lot more like a commercial vehicle from the perspective of how often it is on the road. So that is why we take extra care to ensure your safety because you are driving around often. There are a few instances in which repairing your glass shouldn’t even be considered and replacement should be the only option. For example, if the chip is larger than a coin. Or if the crack exceeds the length of a dollar bill. So contact us so that we can evaluate the damage and advise you accordingly.
